Fascinating interview with CEO Marcus Ryu shows the importance of vision, strategy, technology, domain experience and execution. AND- doggedness, stamina and bravery to stand up to bully competitors. The "Farmer and Son" parable is very apt. Please read it.
My own CEO Paul Stanley of 360Globalnet has similar story to tell in bringing the Digital Claims Platform 360Siteview and MDM & Analytics Platform 360Retrieve to market. Similar ups and downs before success achieved with global insurers which is why comments on fortune and misfortune should always be met with the farmer's "Well, maybe yes, maybe no. We’ll see.”
Strangely enough, or not so strange when you see how many insurance customers have licensed Guidewire, almost all our customers are also Guidewire customers.
Combining a credible core system with world-class digital claims solution.
I’ll tell you a covering story first, which is something that another one of my co-founding partners who was the CTO. He told this story internally early on about this Chinese parable which you can look up on Google, but it’s about a farmer and his son. It’s a farmer and his son. They were very poor and they had a horse. That was their only asset. One day, the horse runs away and the neighbors say, “Well, that’s a calamity for you.” The farmer says, “Well, maybe yes, maybe no. We’ll see.” Then the horse returns, but it’s brought with it a herd of wild horses. Now, they said, “Well, you’re rich.” The neighbors say, “You should be very happy.” The farmer says, “Well, maybe yes, maybe no. We’ll see.”
