Insurer-created insurtechs building "disruptive" momentum

Interesting insight that risk-averse, highly compliant and slow moving insurance companies should create digital entities in parallel with existing analogue ones. In effect create their own Insurtech entities.

This strategy was explored by Robin Merttens in June this year. See:

"Should insurers split into two-analogue and digital?"

On the other hand, you have some Insurance CEO's that will not countenance any such approach.

See "Legal & General's Digital Centre of Excellence"

In fact there is room for both approaches but not just a put up the barriers and stay as you are

Insurers will seek to establish more “greenfield” insurtech companies over the next two to three years, according to Celent senior analyst Mike Fitzgerald.
